This strain of the Bourbon virus was isolated from the serum of an infected St. Louis-area patient. The isolated virus was used to demonstrate in vitro and in a mouse model that the antiviral drug favipiravir has prophylactic and therapeutic efficacy against the Bourbon virus, indicating it as a good candidate for treatment in humans.
