Alpha synuclein is a 140 amino acid protein. The accumulation of aggregated alpha-synuclein within neuronal cells is the defining pathologic change in Parkinson’s disease. We produced recombinany human alpha-synuclein protein in E. Coli and purified it. We developmed an incubation procedure under which the monomeric form of purified alpha-synuclein protein is converted to an aggregated form referred to as fibrils, which have structural similarities to the alpha-synuclein fibrils that accumulate in the brain tissue of people with Parkinson’s disease.
