This is a transgenic mouse line that expresses the Diphtheria toxin receptor in the myocardium of the mouse heart. Upon administration of Diphtheria toxin cardiomyocytes undergo rapid cell death and mice develop heart failure. This mouse line provides a simple a noninvasive method to model cardiac injury. It is technically simpler compared to other surgical approaches.
